Who knew there were 44 letters in the Hungarian alphabet?! Hungarian born designer Anna Kovecses has created Ábécés könyv (alphabet book) which explores the alphabet through colourful illustrations, making it a perfect learning tool for children. I love the use of imagery, font and colour in this book; it's too beautiful to be reserved just for children.
I have only recently discovered the Eindhoven based studio Raw Color which explores the use of material and colour in photography and graphic design. I particularly like their project Tinctorial Textiles which explores interaction of colour through overlapping sheets of fine wool dyed coloured using plant dyes. I love how the different length curtains enable you to see the pure colours as well as the secondary and tertiary tones which are created when they overlap; a simple but very effective outcome.
Whilst in Madrid we discovered the amazing concept shop DO which sells beautiful design products alongside clothes, glassware and magazines. DO functions not only as a constantly evolving shop but also as a gallery, cafe and working studio. Japanese Illustrator Fumi Koike is currently exhibiting her works in the space.
Creative consultancy DJA and photographer Nick Knight have collaborated on this feature in AnOther magazine Spring Summer 2011. The collage effect works well to emphasis the movement depicted in the photographs.
David James, formerly of Out of Print, has launched his new website DJA. DJA work towards a range of advertising and editorial outcomes; for example creating photographic and film campaigns, look books and designing show invites for companies like Prada. DJA also work on editorial layouts for AnOther and Another Man magazines; they experiment with original fonts and layouts to create visual impact. Makes normal magazine layouts look so uninspired.
