N A T A S H A D A I N T R Y

Natasha Daintry is a London based ceramicist whose work explores material, colour, composition and space. Among other things, Daintry creates small, delicate tube like vessels which demonstrate her interest in colour. Combining neons with subtle pastel tones the vessels are arranged in wave like formations; from a sea of whites subtle colours begin to appear and begin to gather power, getting brighter and brighter before fading back to colours so gentle they are almost not there. I find Natasha's sketchbooks particularly interesting; citing Morrocan pots, Roni Horn and Piet Mondrian amongst her inspirations it is fascinating to see how her ideas have developed.

K A W A M A T A

I've recently returned from Paris where I saw Tadashi Kawamata's Tree Huts in Place Vendome. There are 5 of these temporary wooden structures in the square; one wraps around the central column whilst the other 4 can be found on the framing windows on the 19th century buildings which form the square.  I particularly like Kawamata's exciting sketches of the installation which capture the energetic appearance of the structures and the seemingly haphazard compositions. Tania Grace Knuckey graduated from the RCA in 2012 with a masters in Mixed Media Textile Design. Her work explores form, function, texture, material and colour, amongst other things which come together to create ai Fanta-ZY wourRld. Her final MA collection was entitled 'chairs: no sitting: DEEz dEzynED sCulptural tchairz wourE noT mAAde foUr yU. EYE mAAde deM foUr myE MuZe sheZ baD aSS'. Chairs, ordinary and functional objects, are given new meaning. Instead of providing a place to sit, the metal sculptures act as frames for the punched leathers, woven silks, and printed, embroidered and embelsihed surfaces.

R A W C O L O R II

Trawling through Raw Color's archive of exciting projects I came across these intriguing images. Invertuals 2 is a photographic project with the Dutch Invertuals collective and explores the characteristics of foam. This series of sculptures were created as the designers were encased in the pastel tone material and the forms were then bound with string.
